Can graduation invitations replace graduation announcements?

You’re throwing a major bash for your new graduate. You’re so thrilled that your child finished school that you’d like to invite the whole world. However, you are limiting yourself to people you actually know. As you start to look at all the great graduation invitation ideas, it occurs to you that these customizable invitations are much cheaper than the graduation announcements being sold by the school. On top of that, everyone you would send announcements to is being invited to the celebration anyway. Why not create invitations that do dual duty and use the money you would have spent on those costly announcements to hire your child’s favorite local band to provide live music at the party instead?

Simply add a few additional words to the invitations to have them handle both jobs. For example, an invitation that reads, Please join us as we celebrate John Does graduation, can be altered to say, We are delighted to announce that John Doe is graduating on Monday, June, 2nd at 2 p.m. Please join us as we celebrate his achievement with a party on…

If you decide you would rather send separate announcements, consider using VistaPrint to make custom postcards that announce the graduation. Youll still be paying much less than you would for official school announcements and youll save on postage.

You want to scream it from the rooftops. You’re finally graduating and you’ll never have to sit through Calculus again. However, when your mom brings the graduation announcements up you feel a bit uncertain. Isn’t that kind of tacky? Won’t everyone just think you are just after a gift? Actually, letting everyone know they don’t need to feel obligated to send a gift when they receive an announcement is fairly simple. Just tell them. Try one of these ideas for getting the message across:

A hug and your sincere congratulations are the only gifts I need.

Please feel free to give me your valuable advice as I prepare for college.

I like presents as much as the next person, but this is not a thinly veiled request for gifts. I just want you to celebrate my achievement with me.

Want to give me a graduation gift? Great! Don’t want to give me a graduation gift? Great! However, feeling excited over my good news is mandatory!

Instead of sending me graduation gifts, please give a small contribution to Books for Kids or your favorite literacy or school related charity. I want everyone to be able to feel the same sense of accomplishment I feel.
