Do I really need to proofread my family address labels?

You type your information into the spaces on VistaPrint’s handy customization tool and quickly initial the space that says you are happy with the online label’s appearance. After all, there is no sense spending a lot of time going back over the information you typed in. You know how to spell your name and you’ve lived at the same address for four years. Now, all you have to do is sit back and wait for your new family address labels to arrive. Finally, the labels are here and they don’t look like cheap address labels at all. They’re gorgeous! You take a closer look and see that your last name is now Smiht. You transposed the “t” and the “h” and didn’t even realize it.

Proofreading may seem like a big waste of time, especially when you are typing something like your name, but it is so easy to transpose letters when you are in a hurry.

  • Look over the entire text and then go through it backwards. Sometimes, our brains automatically correct what we’re seeing on the page and we miss a word that is spelled incorrectly.
  • Ask someone else to take a quick look, too. He or she may notice an error that you missed.
  • Only initial the proof after you’ve really done a thorough review of the information you’ve typed in.
